Science Fun at Home

Below are some fun science investigations you can do at home with your grown ups, using items that you can find around your house.

Have fun experimenting!

Different Weather

What a beautiful day it is today - the sun is shining and the sky is lovely and blue. Days like this make me feel really happy . I can go outside and have a walk, look at all the flowers, and maybe have a picnic. The days are much longer and so I can enjoy being outside later,What can you do on a sunny day? How does it make your feel?

Sometimes I wake up and it is grey and raining, and so I don't always feel so happy. But then I think, the sun might not be shining, but the rain is watering all the plants in the garden and will help them grow. As it is a bit colder, it means I can snuggle up in a nice thick jumper and feel nice and warm, so then I feel much happier. The rain makes lots of puddles to splash in, which is always fun to do.

Often, when the rain has stopped and the sun comes out, there is a rainbow in the sky, which always looks lovely and colourful.

What do you notice about the different weather? How does it make you feel? What type of weather is your favourite? Do you have a favourite time of year? Maybe you like the spring, when the days are starting to get longer, animals are having their babies, flowers are starting to grow. Or maybe you like the summer, when the days are getting hotter, you can play outside for longer, perhaps go to the beach. Or how about the autumn, when the leaves are changing colour and starting to fall off the trees, so you can go crunching through them. Or do you look forward to winter, when you can wrap up warm, and have cosy nights in, hoping that it will snow so that you can build a snowman?

Talk about the different weather with your family. Think about something that is good for each type of weather. Can you make a weather picture using natural objects that you might find in your garden, or maybe when you go out for a walk?

To help you, there is a song below - When It's a Sunny Day - which talks about different kinds of weather.

Making Music

Good morning!

Making music can be a lot of fun, but did you know that you can also use music to make art and do science? Have a look at the website below and explore the different experiments that are there. Don't forget - have fun!
