Kingfishers

Welcome to Kingfishers

I would like to say a warm welcome to the Kingfishers class and Year 2. We are a class of 30 children.

Mrs McGrath is the class teacher and Mrs McDermott is the class teaching assistant.

PE

Our PE lessons are every Wednesday and Friday this half term so please ensure that your child has a full, named PE kit in school and is not not wearing earrings on those days.

Homework

Homework is given out on a Friday and is Maths task linked to what we have been learning in our Maths lessons over the week. This will be in a yellow homework book and must be returned to school by Wednesday the following week. It is really important that your child completes their homework on their own.

Spellings

Spellings will be added to the children's homework each Friday, and they will be able to use the spelling strategies we have learnt in our Phonics lessons to practise them.

Reading

Reading is such an important life skill to have. In Kingfishers, we want to become the best readers we can, so we ask our grown ups to listen to us read and comment in our reading diaries so that we can get our book changed – just a small comment and signature is fine. Books can be changed on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday. When reading with the children, please encourage them to talk about the book in order to develop their comprehension skills. Regular reading will also help to develop spelling skills, as well as helping to improve writing skills.

We have a special reading scheme to encourage reading and we receive prizes for reading certain numbers of books. We really enjoy this!  If you have any concerns please call in to see our teachers.
