How big is the Earth?

Size of the Earth

Have you ever wondered how big the Earth is? The National Schools' Observatory (NSO) and the Royal Astronomical Society are giving you the opportunity to help find out. All you will need to do this are:

  1. a long, straight stick - it can be a pencil, a dowel, a pole, but the longer and straighter the better
  2. a measuring tape to measure the length of your stick
  3. a sunny, open space

Below is the link to the NSO website giving you full instructions about how to take part in the investigation. Let's hope it is sunny over the next few days so that you can get some really good results! Let us know how you get on with the investigation, and if you manage to find out how big the Earth is!
