Growing a bean

Jack and the Beanstalk

Let's sit down and enjoy the story of 'Jack and the Beanstalk'.

What do you think it would be like to grow a beanstalk so tall that it reaches the clouds? I wonder what we would find up there. Do you think that there is where  giants live, or is it the home of something else? Maybe it's where the unicorns live. Who knows? Draw a picture of what you think will be up beyond the clouds, and then write a short description. Remember to use some really good adjectives in your writing!

We could also have a go at growing our own bean stalk. Below are some instructions to follow to grow your own bean, but without using any soil. I wonder how big your beanstalk willl grow. Can you keep a diary to show what is happenihng to your beanstalk - you could take photos of it each day, or draw a picture of how it is growing, and label the different parts. Then you will be able to bring your diary to school to show your teachers.

I have also added 2 extra links for you to copy and paste into your browser. One is a link to a youtube video showing how you can make your own flowers for a flower garden, and the other is a link to some instructions to show you how to press some real flowers so that you can keep them.
